About us
MediaPro Pictures is Romania’s leading producer of entertainment. Our activity focuses on television and film production. At the same time, we have a division specialized in organizing events, L!VE, and one that handles commercials and music videos – Domino Productions.
Founded in 1998, we have set landmark after landmark in the history of Romanian entertainment: the first local telenovela (“Only Love”, 2004), the first local sitcom (“Neighbors Forever”, 2005), the first local police series (“Good Guys”, 2005), the highest-grossing Romanian motion picture after 1990 (“Garcea, the Dumbest Cop on Earth”, 2001), the first local spin-off (“Tears of Love”, 2006) and the legendary street concerts aired live on Pro TV every New Year’s Eve.
In 2007 we opened MediaPro Pictures s.r.o., our first offshore subsidiary, located in the Czech Republic. This reflects our objective of becoming the most important player in the regional film and television market.
In 2008, in order to keep up with the increasing volume of productions, two new divisions were created. They are specialized in complementary types of content for television: MediaPro Television (drama, comedy and action) and Promance International (romantic fiction).
MediaPro Pictures is part of the MediaPro Group, the largest media consortium in Romania. We are based in the town of Buftea, on the premises of the largest complex of film studios in Eastern Europe, MediaPro Studios.
Feature films
Over the years MediaPro Pictures has managed to release both productions for mass audiences (such as “Garcea, the Dumbest Cop on Earth”, 2001) and productions intended to appeal to a more exclusive public – like the high-profile drama “California Dreamin’ (Endless)”, which was awarded the prize “Un Certain Regard” at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007.
We focus on stories that are highly relevant to today’s audiences. “Philanthropy” (2002), “Rage” (2002), “Second-Hand” (2005), “Margo” (2006), “Following Her” (2007), “The Survivor” (2008) and “Weekend with My Mother” (2008) are just a few examples.
MediaPro Pictures is an increasingly active coproducer in the Eastern European film market. We recently financed “Roming” (2007), “At Your Own Risk” (2008), “Rodinka: Just a Normal Family” (2008) and “Zmiana: An Unexpected Sex Change” (2008). We also boast having coproduced feature films such as: “Amen” (2002), “Callas Forever” (2002), “Modigliani” (2004), “An American Haunting” (2005), “Joyeux Noël” (2005); and TV movies like “Sex Traffic” (2004) and “Gunpowder, Treason and Plot” (2004).
MediaPro Television
This is the MediaPro Pictures division specialized in television series and movies belonging to the drama, comedy and action genres. Although it only became a formal entity in 2008, the division has been, in fact, producing content since 2005, when it made television history with the first Romanian sitcom: “Neighbors Forever”. This series holds the record for the longest-running Romanian television production (13 seasons).
MediaPro Television also produced the first Romanian police series (“Good Guys”, 2005) and the first Romanian teen soap opera (“One Step Ahead”, 2006). Other series include: “At the Office” (2005), “The Immigrants” (2006), “Poor Man, Rich Man” (2006), “The Antechamber” (2007) and “House Arrest” (2008).
Lately we have intensified the production of TV movies. The following are in various stages of production: “Against the Clock”, “A Simple Movie”, “Good Guys” and “Fire and Ice”. The last is an English-speaking heroic fantasy produced with Sci-Fi Channel. It features well-known American actors and employs spectacular CGI.
Promance International
This is the romantic fiction division of MediaPro Pictures. It is specialized in producing television programs, series (drama and comedy-romance) and TV movies for both the Romanian and the European markets.
Even though its present identity was established in 2008, Promance International has been part of MediaPro Pictures since 2004, when it produced the first Romanian telenovela, “Only Love”. The series turned into a noteworthy challenger for well-known local shows aired on other major stations, reaching an average market share of 25.3%. In the footsteps of this high-profile success, other telenovelas such as “Tears of Love”, “A Movie-like Romance”, “The Sins of Eve” and “Daria, My Love” soon followed.
However, it wasn’t until 2007 that a new milestone was set: the telenovela “Gypsy Heart” became an indisputable leader in the Romanian television market. The grand finale scored a record market share of 40.3% – the highest for Acasa TV in the past six years.
L!VE
L!VE, the event marketing division of MediaPro Pictures, is a services integrator for the events market. For many years, MediaPro Pictures organized with professional crews memorable events for the companies in the MediaPro Group – so the decision to create a business unit in its own right came as a natural step.
By rallying the resources of the largest media group in Romania, L!VE aims to develop high-impact experiences in order to facilitate and intensify meaningful relationships between brands and their target audiences. The L!VE team sees an event as a mix between art and science, as its success depends on the creative idea as much as on every detail in the execution.
Whether it is a small event or a complex entertainment platform, L!VE shows the same enthusiasm by deploying a dedicated and diverse staff (from set designers and directors to props masters) and the latest technological solutions. The fields in which the division has proven its know-how include: concerts and festivals, sports events, product launches and caravans, trade fairs and exhibitions, business events and private events.
Domino Productions
This is the MediaPro Pictures division specialized in the production of commercials and music videos; it has been active on the Romanian market since 1994. So far, Domino Productions left its mark on an impressive number of docudramas, commercials and music videos. Part of these can be found on www.dominopro.ro.
The division had the privilege of working with renowned clients such as Procter & Gamble, Pepsi Cola, Unilever, Nestle, McDonald’s or Tuborg, as well as with famous brands such as PlayStation, Jaguar, Nokia, Mercedes or Sony. Domino Productions owes part of its success to its excellent collaboration with the largest advertising agencies in Romania: Saatchi & Saatchi, Lintas, Leo Burnett, D.D.B., McCann Erickson, Young & Rubicam or Ogilvy & Mather.
Domino Productions had a lot to gain from working together with some of the industry’s biggest names, such as Director Andrew Douglas (advertising campaigns for Nike), Director of Photography Dariusz Khondji (“Seven”), Director of Photography Tim Maurice Jones (“Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”, “Snatch”) or Director of Photography Ellen Kuras (“The Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind”). Domino Productions has also produced videos for well-known international music artists: All Saints, Rammstein, Kaiser Chief, Kasabian or Anastacia.
