1962. It all starts when four boys, Titel, Horia, Claudiu and
Marcel, skip school and start spending their time playing
poker.
2009. At his villa in Snagov, Claudiu, currently a divorced
senator, and Monica, his young Moldavian mistress, get ready for
company. They are waiting for Horia, Titel and Marcel for a game of
poker. The first one to arrive is Horia, a successful plastic
surgeon. Soon after, Titel shows up escorted by an army of
bodyguards, lead by his right hand man, Calabrezu. The three engage
in a discussion that reveals their envy of Marcel, now a
millionaire architect in the US.
While waiting for Marcel, their dirty deeds begin to surface. Titel
and Claudiu are in a tight spot and start blackmailing and
threatening each other due to a conflict of interest: they both
want the same Senate seat. Titel is bribing everybody in order to
attain the diplomatic immunity that comes with the Senate seat,
with no regards to the fact that he's jeopardizing Claudiu's
job.
Claudiu tries to blackmail Titel, but he is surprised to discover
that the ace up his sleeve is useless. Titel is one step ahead as
he planned a similar blackmail attempt. Horia gets between them
trying to find a midway solution, but at the end of the day the
three wind up being conned by Marcel, with the help of
Monica.
Monica lets them know that Marcel isn't going to show up, that he
won't give them financial help as promised and that she is leaving
Romania to live a happy life be his side. Titel tries to kill her,
but fails. In the end, Monica is allowed to leave and search for
her "knight in shinning armor", while the three remain best
friends, just like nothing happened.
