Dan Pita started shooting the drama „Something good out of life”
The famous director Dan Pita, with a cinema career of over 40 years, starts the third project in collaboration with MediaPro Pictures, after "Second Hand" (2005) and "Woman Of My Dreams" (2005).
"Something good out of life" is a story of love and dreams that seem dangerously frail in the cold and rough city where is taken place, but, alas, hope prevails as the characters - two friends raised as orphans by the state - try to find their place amidst the chaos of early 90's Romania. Although far from a preferred option, Mateo and Ginel take up jobs as miners as the first step towards their - imagined - great escape. The dark corridors that greet them at first will lead them to a roller coaster ride of surprises, decisions and actions as they try to make their way out from a life and place as claustrophobic as the mines themselves, finding and losing ideals, money and love in the process.
The cast includes young but very talented actors, at their first roles in cinema, but Pita puts all his trust on their performance. Corneliu Ulici and Dragos Dumitru play the two friends, Mateo and Ginel and Anastasia Dumitrescu and Adelaida Perjoiu impersonate the main female characters, Caroline and Gina, the women under their protection. "I casted unknown actors I present for the first time to the public. They are young graduates or older actors with only theatre experience. I hope that "Something good out of life" will boost their careers" confesses the director.
In 2007 the original script "Something good out of life", written by Rasvan Popescu in collaboration with Alex Molico, won the national script competition. Since then it was needed a long preparation period until shooting started. The main issue was organizing the production in the country; Hunedoara, Deva, Vulcan, Aninoasa, Petrila, Petrosani were picked as shooting locations to emphasize the story's authenticity and to create the tense atmosphere surrounding our characters' adventures.
First shooting day took place in the sterile pit, on top of a stone mine, the opening scene of the movie. We meet Mateo and Ginel when they are still residents of St. Ana orphanage and they try to make some money by selling some ore stolen from a mineral waste pit. Dan Pita fills us in: "I tell the story of a friendship, of a tormented love, of a couple of friends fighting with life and with the society, all of this shooting in places where I've never been before."
Shootings will last 7 weeks and the movie launch is programmed for 2011.
