Have you ever wondered how would the famous line "I will make you an offer you can't refuse" sound if it were told by a woman? Probably not, mainly because so far all the mobsters were played by man. Now we put an end to this practice as today starts the shooting for the newest MediaPro Pictures production, "The Godmother", a feature film that will prove a woman can successfully lead a Mafia clan, sometimes with more imagination and humor than an experienced Italian gangster.

The script, written by Tudor Voican and Viorel Mihalcea, won the Romanian National Cinematography Center's competition in 2006. First time director Virgil Nicolaescu and the more experienced Jesus del Cerro team up for the fifth project together, produced by Alma Sarbu and Patricia Poienaru.

As dangerous as it would sound at first glance, "The Godmother" is a classic family comedy. Jennifer is a beautiful American woman living in Romania and working as an English teacher at International School of Bucharest. She is married with Radu Prodan, a respected Romanian financier and together they have an extremely intelligent 10 years old boy, David. One day, while baptizing a child, police storms in the church and arrest her husband - then she learns that the "respectable" business Radu was managing was in fact money laundry for a local mobster, Spanu - The Madfather. Our heroine finds herself over night in a true gangster story like only in movies she had seen before. Moreover, the law prohibits her to leave the country and, anyway, she is not convinced of her husband's guilty. The only solution she finds to bring her family back together is to start her own "mafia clan" to withstand Spanu's attempts on her and her son. Along her, a gang of misfits and Regular Joes help her by fleshing out the characters in her tale - and her imaginary but oh-so-important crime family.

For an authentic interpretation on Jennifer the producers brought into the project an American actress. Whitney Anderson has a lot of experience in the television movies, with parts in some episodes of CSI, Veronica Mars or Bones. At her side, the main roles are played by the famous Romanian actors Dragos Bucur (as her husband, Radu Prodan) and Razvan Vasilescu as the family's lawyer, Nicu Sorescu. David, the couple's son, is impersonated by the young and talented Stefan Iancu.

First day of shooting took place in MediaPro Studios, in Buftea, and reunited Whitney Anderson, Stefan Iancu, Dan Astilean, Doru Catanescu, Marian Negrescu, Puiu Lascus, Florentin Roman and David Puscas.

The production of "The Godmother" will last 3 weeks and will take place in different locations in Bucharest and MediaPro Studios in Buftea. The cinema launch is programmed for May 2011.
